Julia Mintzer recently won rave reviews in the title role of Tobias Picker’s Thérèse Raquin at Theater an der Wien, stepping into the role with less than a week’s notice. She made her UK debut as the title role Carmen at Welsh National Opera and has performed principal roles with Washington National Opera, Semperoper Dresden and The Glimmerglass Festival.

Having recently moved into soprano repertoire, Julia has sung the title role Salome at Tulsa Opera and performed the final scene from Salome at Queen Elizabeth Hall with the Odyssey Festival Orchestra. She made her debut as Tosca at Theater Sankt Gallen and subsequently sang Santuzza Cavalleria rusticana at Dorset Opera Festival.

Recent engagements include the title role Medusa by William Bolcom with Odyssey Opera and the Boston Modern Orchestra Project, and Tosca at Theater Sankt Gallen. In February 2026 she performed the title role Medusa at Jordan Hall as part of Odyssey Opera’s Mono e Mono (e Mono). She returned to Theater Sankt Gallen as Tosca for Tosca für Alle in 2026, alongside Jorge Puerta, with Giuseppe Mentuccia conducting and Marcos Darbyshire directing.

Previous engagements include the Foreign Princess Rusalka at Stadttheater Bremerhaven and roles at Semperoper Dresden including Zweite Dame Die Zauberflöte, Flora La traviata, the Page Salome, Dryade Ariadne auf Naxos and Emma May in the world premiere of Tsangaris’s Karl May: Raum der Wahrheit. At Washington National Opera, her roles included Hänsel Hänsel und Gretel, Clotilde Norma and Giovanna Seymour Anna Bolena.

She sang the first staged performance of David Lang’s Little Match Girl Passion at The Glimmerglass Festival and has also performed Elisabetta Maria Stuarda and Preziosilla La forza del destino at Theater Aachen. Further engagements include the title role Carmen, Elisabetta Maria Stuarda, Santuzza Cavalleria rusticana and Giulietta Les Contes d’Hoffmann at Landestheater Schleswig-Holstein, and the title role Carmen at Theater Lüneburg.

Julia was a member of the Junges Ensemble at Semperoper Dresden from 2013–15 and a young artist at Washington National Opera from 2012–13. She graduated from The Juilliard School and the Boston University Opera Institute. Her concert work includes Handel’s Messiah with Boston Baroque, Washington National Cathedral and the Toledo Symphony, and Mozart’s Requiem at Washington National Cathedral.

Julia holds a Tier 1 Exceptional Talent Visa in the United Kingdom, where she is now resident.
