Christopher made his Covent Garden debut in 1984 and has sung many roles for the Royal Opera‚ English National Opera and Glyndebourne Touring Opera. He has performed extensively abroad‚ particularly for the Netherlands Opera where most recently he performed Les Troyens and Red Whiskers Billy Budd. Christopher’s many operatic world premieres include Rosa‚ a horse operaBroken Strings/Snatched by the GodsGassir the heroAlice (Netherlands Opera)‚ A King Riding (La Monnaie) and TEA in Suntory Hall‚ Tokyo. He has performed in national premieres of Die Soldaten (ENO)‚ Die Wände (Frankfurt Opera)‚ Nyman’s NoisesSounds and Sweet Airs (Tokyo) and What Next? (London Sinfonietta). Other 20th century roles include Dov The Knot Garden (ROH)‚ Aschenbach Death in Venice (Genova)‚ and Toni Elegy for Young Lovers (Amsterdam). Baroque performances include Scarlatti’s Il Telemaco (Opera de Nice)‚ Provenzale’s La Stellidaura Vendicante (La Monnaie) and Cavalli’s La Didone (Lausanne and Montpellier).

Christopher is a noted interpreter of Bach and has sung the Evangelist in the Bach Choir’s annual performances of St Matthew Passion (RFH and the Birmingham Symphony Hall) many times‚ and also for the London Mozart Players‚ King’s College Choir in Cambridge and at Cadogan Hall. Concert performances include Henze’s Voices with Oliver Knussen (QEH‚ BBC Proms and the Concertgebouw)‚ Britten’s Nocturne with Knussen (Philadelphia Orchestra) and Janowksi (Berlin Rundfunk)‚ Knussen’s Higglety Pigglety Pop! (BBC Proms and Cleveland Orchestra)‚ Peter Grimes (London Symphony Orchestra and Sir Colin Davis in New York)‚ Maderna’s Venetian Journal (ASKO ensemble‚ Concertgebouw)‚ On Wenlock Edge (BBC and Les Journées Ravel‚ France)‚ Andriesson’s De Materie (New York‚ Concertgebouw) and Britten’s War Requiem (Buenos Aires‚ Amsterdam‚ Stuttgart‚ Taipei‚ Brno‚ Bratislava and Berlin).
